Strategic Objectives Addressed:

The Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP) named Safety In Motion (SIM) will contribute to the priorities set out in priority thematic research area 1.6 Sustainable Development, global change and ecosystems of the Sixth Framework programme. It particularly appeals to the sub priority 1.6.2 Sustainable Surface Transport. The activities within this STREP will focus on Objective 4 "Increasing road, rail and waterborne safety and avoiding traffic congestion" of the Sustainable surface transport Work programme (2002-2006) and more specific research domain 4.13 (only for rail transport and powered two-wheelers) that refers specifically to:

4.13 Developing integrated safety systems which are reliable and fault tolerant (preventive, active and passive) taking into account human-machine interface concepts focusing on the system implementation.
