Established in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, and based in Pontedera (Pisa, Italy), the Piaggio Group operates globally in the light mobility vehicles industry. The Group is also a leading manufacturer in the development, production and sale of two-wheeled vehicles. Including Aprilia and Moto Guzzi, and the Spanish manufacturer Derbi, Piaggio Group operates in the two-wheeled market and in the light transport vehicles market. Piaggio product range features scooters with engine sizes ranging from 50cc up to 500cc and motorcycles from 50cc up to 1.200cc with Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi and Scarabeo brands. The Group also manufactures three and four-wheel light commercial vehicles for utility and personal mobility.
Piaggio Research and Product Development Department (R&D) design new two/four stroke engines and two/three/four-wheel vehicles characterized by low environmental impact. Piaggio presented and produced the world's first bimodal scooter (called Zip&Zip) and the world's first two-stroke direct injection engine named FAST.
Piaggio has already gained good experience at coordinating/participating EU-RTD projects (such as the MORIS ESPRIT Project, the DOLCE BRITE-EURAM Project) and, at the present time is in activity for the participation in the EC projects FRESCO, WATCH-OVER, SAFESPOT and ALICE. Piaggio has been involved in two EC projects: ZEDIS and ZED.

Fundación para la Investigación y Desarrollo en Transporte y Energía

CIDAUT focuses its efforts on three basic activities: Technological Research and Development, Technological Diffusion and Transfer and Specialised Training. This allows it to deal with its Research, Development and Innovation goals effectively.
Technological Research and Development is the main activity carried out by the Centre where several broad areas are covered: Crashworthiness and Occupant Safety, Products & Processes Design and Development, Materials (energy absorption foams, plastics, light alloys, …), Acoustics and Vibration Dynamics, Environment and Engines & Energy systems.
Regarding Safety expertise, CIDAUT is experienced in real world accidents and injury data, biomechanics, dummy development and test methods, virtual testing and modelling, preventive and active safety, material technologies, vehicle structural crashworthiness and restraint systems (passive safety), road furniture, HMI and ergonomics. Dealing with the means of transport, we are mainly focused to passenger cars, motorcycles, pedestrians, rail and aircraft transport safety. Both experimental and virtual testing tools are always used.

CTU in Prague
Faculty of Transportation Sciences

Faculty of Transportation Sciences, Czech Technical University in Prague, offers the B.Sc. study programs and M.Sc. degree programs with concentration in transportation and telecommunications. The programme on B.Sc., M.Sc. level prepares the students for analysis, design, organisation, control, development and research of transportation processes giving them a thorough motivation in the aspects of economics, system theory, traffic theory and traffic safety, environmental protection and optimal ways to achieve the high efficiency in logistic, transportation technology and telecommunication processes.
Graduates of this faculty will also be able to develop and monitor the reliability and economical operation, using the latest knowledge of management theory and informatics.

More technically and theoretically oriented are Ph.D. programmes, which cover:

- Technology and Management in Transportation and Telecommunication

The Faculty of transportation science has wide cooperation with big companies as Czech Railways, Telefónica and cooperates with State executive institution and working committees of Czech Parliament.
CTU in Prague, Faculty of transportation science has been involved in APSN project, AUTOFORE project and in the research projects supported by the local ministries (transport, trade and industry). The aim of the research projects in active and passive safety of vehicles mainly.

DME, a TRW Automotive Company, was founded in 1974 and entered the TRW family in 2005.
We are dedicated to the design and manufacturing vehicle components. The main products are airbags, steering wheels, and clocksprings. In the airbag area DM manufactures all kind of airbags (driver, passenger, thorax, curtain, knee, ..). The main objective is to supply our automotive customers innovative and price oriented solutions to achieve the continuous innovation and passive safety solutions, products and processes needed in vehicles.
In coordination with TRW Automotive, Technological Research and Development is one of the important activities carried out by DME, in several R&D centres located in Spain and Portugal, where several broad areas are covered: Occupant and Pedestrian Safety System development, Product & Processes Design, and Subcomponents Development.

Savatech Industrial Rubber Products and Tyres d.o.o.

Savatech Industrial Rubber Products and Tyres d.o.o. is a part of the SAVA Group, which predecessor, Sava Kranj, was established in 1920 in Kranj, Slovenia. After the production of car tyres of the former company Sava Kranj had been sold to the Goodyear Corporation in 1997, the remaining part of the rubber production was restructured. The production programmes joined in 2001 into the newly formed company Savatech d.o.o. as a part of Sava Kranj d.d., and is 100% owned by Sava Kranj d.d. The aim of this process has been searching for new products with higher added value.
Main activities of Savatech d.o.o. are production and marketing of rubber compounds, tyres for scooters and motorcycles, tyres for industrial vehicles and solid tyres, environmental protection products, conveyor belts for mining and building industry, solid and sponge rubber profiles for building industry, and rubber printing blankets for printing industry. Savatech d.o.o. comprises six production programmes: Elastomers, Conveyor Belts, Profiles, Print, EKO and VELO. The Elastomers programme comprises also the Research & Development Institute (RDI).

Department of Mechanical, Nuclear and Production Engineering

The Department of Mechanical, Nuclear and Production Engineering is a Department of the University of Pisa, Italy. The Department is involved in many research activities in the fields of mechanical and automotive engineering and has specific expertise in vehicle dynamics, vehicle design, development of dynamic models and simulation.
The teaching staff holds the chair of many courses of the M.Sc. Programme in Vehicle Engineering, such as "Vehicle dynamics" and "Vehicle design" and co-operates with the main Italian four and two wheeler manufacturers on specific subjects of vehicle engineering.
The Department is also centre for the Ph.D. Programme in Land Vehicles. It participates in two networks of excellence (NOE) launched in the 6th Framework Program: Hysafe and Sarnet. It also is partner in Nuresim, an integrated project. In addition at the Department experimental facilities for materials and components characterisation and of advanced CAE design tool, such as FE and MB codes are available.

The University of West Bohemia
New Technologies - Research Centre in the Westbohemian Region

The University of West Bohemia (UWB) in Plzen is the only institution of higher education in this part of the country which prepares students for careers in engineering (electrical and mechanical), science (computer science, applied mathematics, physics, mechanics), education (for both primary and secondary school teachers in a wide range of subjects), fine arts, economics, humanities (philosophy, sociology, foreign languages, social and cultural anthropology, archaeology), law and public administration.
New Technologies - Research Centre (NTC) involved in this project is a research institution covered by the University of West Bohemia. The key competencies of the research centre are testing and prediction of material properties during the process of exploitation and the research focused on development of algorithms for designing the composites strongly resistant to shock loads and sensors, modeling of systems respecting inner structure, material properties and loading leading to strongly coupled non-linear problems not covered by the commercial software and their experimental verification and computer model of a human body including inner organs for impact and comfort purposes.
UWB is involved in the APSN, the APROSYS project and the MYMOSA project.
